What are water-resistant shoes?

The first thing that comes to mind might be wellies, but these are regular everyday shoes made with properties to help you get through the wet and windy weather. Water-resistant shoes are designed to protect your feet from getting wet, even on the rainiest of days.

Incorporated between the outer material and the inner lining, it forms an effective protective layer against all types of wet weather.

How does the TEX membrane work?

The defining property of our water-resistant shoes, the TEX membrane, protects your feet from cold and wet weather while maintaining a comfortable feel. This is effective because the ultra-thin membrane between the material and the inner lining features small pores. The pores prevent water or snow from entering the shoe as the moisture is transported away from the feet through the membrane. Removing the moisture this way allows the shoes to stay breathable and comfortable throughout the day.

What’s the difference between waterproof and water-resistant?

The simple difference between water-resistant and waterproof shoes is that while water-resistant footwear puts up a strong fight against rain and other wet elements, waterproof items are completely impervious. This may seem negative against water-resistant shoes, but that’s not entirely true.

Waterproof shoes can be very heavy-duty and feel like a chore to walk in. Our water-resistant TEX range includes the same antistress properties as all Rieker shoes so you’re guaranteed quality water protection alongside expertly managed comfort.

The water-repellent membrane between the outer material and inner lining is our water-resistant shoes' biggest barrier to defence. This protective layer crucially does not interfere with the unique properties of Rieker shoes.
