The Christmas holidays are a great time for festive family days out and cosy couple dates, but what are the best UK Christmas markets to go to? At Rieker we’ve put together a guide on popular Christmas fairs that will no doubt entice you with fun activities and copious amounts of delicious food and drink. If you haven’t already got into the spirit then planning a trip to a Christmas market can really help you embrace the yuletide season!

November – January

There are a couple of brilliant Christmas markets in 2018 worth visiting around London, including the crowd-drawing Winter Wonderland (Nov 22 – Dec 27) in Hyde Park. A charming Christmas fair with stalls, family shows and an ice rink, Winter Wonderland is a large-scale Christmas market that draws visitors from all over the UK. An alternative to the busy Winter Wonderland is the Southbank Centre Winter Market ( Nov 9 – Dec 27) which is set along the banks of the Thames. An ideal location for those visiting the capital for a few days due to the proximity to landmarks such as Big Ben and St Paul’s, the Southbank Winter Market is a fabulous place to pick up some artisan gifts.

November 15 – December 22

The annual German Christmas fair in Birmingham is back for 2018 and is bigger than ever with even more food markets and gift stalls. The Frankfurt Christmas market in Birmingham brings the very best German food and drink to one of the UK’s largest cities. Expect to devour delicacies such as bratwursts, schnitzels and salted pretzels, and wash them down with a hearty glass of weissbier or glühwein whilst soaking up the electric atmosphere in Victoria Square.

Attend the Glasgow Christmas markets at George Square and St Enoch Square this year for a plethora of different tempting street food stalls, live entertainment and funfair rides. The ideal Christmas fair for families, the Glasgow Christmas market is the perfect place to sample international fare such as Bavarian beers, local crispy duck rotisserie and French crepes while getting your festive cheer on. With a lit-up German windmill, a friendly Santa giving out chocolate treats and a wonderfully dressed square of 50 chalet stalls, you and your family will feel cosy and welcomed at the Glasgow Christmas markets.

November 17 – December 22

The Belfast Christmas market is situated in the stunning City Hall gardens which are transformed every year into a magical village setting. There are plenty of sights to behold and experience, such as a vintage carousel ride, a towering helter skelter and, of course, a dazzling Santa’s Grotto for the kids. Promised to be one of the best Christmas markets of 2018, the Belfast Christmas fair is the place to be for unique gifts such as hand-painted pottery and tree decorations, plus Candy Alley is great for last minute kids stocking fillers!
